Biography of Werner Klemperer

Werner Klemperer was an American actor and comedian best known for his role as Colonel Wilhelm Klink in the CBS comedy series "Hogan's Heroes".

He was born in Cologne, Germany, as the son of renowned conductor Otto Klemperer and soprano singer Johanna Geisler.

Talented in music like his parents, Werner played the violin and even pursued a career as a concert pianist.

He also sang as a baritone in opera and Broadway musicals. He could be seen in the violin section of the New Philharmonia Orchestra on the DVD "Otto Klemperer - Beethoven Symphony No. 9," recorded on November 8, 1964, at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

As the Klemperers were Jewish, they were forced to leave Germany in 1935 after the Nazis came to power.

They settled in Los Angeles, where Otto resumed his career as a conductor. Werner continued his education in schools and then enrolled
