He is best known as the founder of Nokia.

In May 1865, he received permission to make weather vanes in Tampere, Finland.

The weather vane began operating in 1866. In 1871, he founded the Nokia company with Leo Mechelin and moved the company's headquarters to Nokia, Finland.
