Topanga residents Amy and Pete Favat moved into their home about two years ago and are hosting a charity art auction, “100 Pieces,” on Thursday, May 9, to raise funds for Safe Place for Youth (SPY), a drop-in center for at-risk and homeless youth in Venice, where Amy is a full-time volunteer and serves on their board of directors.

In 2015, Amy, Pete, and their friends Chris Buzzell and Melissa Ross, created the auction, hoping to receive at least 100 pieces.

“Our first year we received well over 100 pieces and raised more than $50,000 via a silent auction,” says Amy.

Now in its fourth year, the team is inviting Topanga artists to submit their works.

To date, the list includes Topanga artists Chuck Blackwell, Peter Kagan, Mitt Seely, Brian Kaufman, Prince Zapata, and Gabriel Hacker.

Amy says the goal of the event is to bring the community together and increase awareness of the issue of youth homelessness.
